Use an evening wind-down schedule to pause selected distractions before bed without necessarily keeping them blocked all night. Choose the start, end, days, and apps to fit your evening. Add a separate overnight window only if you want one.

These are suggested settings, not a built-in preset. Select the apps and hours that fit your needs.

Try it step by step

  1. Decide what you want to do in the hour before bed and leave the tools for that activity available.
  2. Open Schedules, choose New schedule, and name it “Evening wind-down”.
  3. Choose your repeating days and time window. The example below uses 21:00–22:00; adapt it to your routine.
  4. Select the apps to block, optionally add a reminder message, and save the enabled schedule. Required protection permissions must be granted.
  5. Check whether the window ends at the right time or should lead into a separate overnight boundary.

Wind-down and bedtime have different jobs

An evening window might protect reading or preparing for tomorrow. A bedtime window might restrict a different set of apps overnight. Separate schedules let you make those choices explicitly.

They do not need to be separate if one simple schedule fits both. Avoid extra rules that make it difficult to understand why an app is blocked.

Expect overlap when the windows meet

If two windows overlap, the effective restrictions include the apps protected by either active schedule. An app can remain blocked even when the wind-down window ends.

Review those transitions when planning your evening. Do not rely on pausing one schedule to turn off every active restriction.

Common questions

Is wind-down a special app mode?

It is a routine you create using the Schedules feature. You name it and choose its apps, days, and time window.

What if I need to change today’s plan?

Pause the current schedule window when needed. Its apps can remain blocked by another active schedule or manual focus session. Edit or disable the schedule when you want to change the repeating routine.
