Choose your focus duration around one task and the time you actually have. Focnera offers suggested durations and a custom timer. Start with a manageable block, then adjust your next session based on what worked.

Try it step by step

  1. Name a concrete outcome, such as drafting an introduction or reviewing your notes.
  2. Check how much uninterrupted time is available before your next commitment.
  3. Choose a suggested duration or enter a custom duration in Focnera.
  4. Select distracting apps, enter your intention, and start. Review the fit of the duration afterward.

Three starting points

For a task you are avoiding, try a small first step and a short timer. For a familiar task, choose enough time to complete a meaningful piece. For open-ended work, define a stopping point before choosing a longer session.

A 15-minute outline, a 25-minute practice block, and a 45-minute writing session are examples you can adapt. They are not evidence that a particular interval is best for everyone. Your task and schedule should decide.

A timer is a boundary, not a score

If you repeatedly stop early, shorten the next session or make the task more specific. If the work needs longer, start another session when you are ready. You do not need to turn every available minute into focus time.

Focnera shows the remaining time and restores selected apps when the session ends. Early stopping includes a confirmation step. Avoid starting a block that prevents access to an app you already know you will need.
